Tikhomirov Alexander Yevgenyevich

Peoples Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Member of the “Creative Artists’ Union” of Russia, Chairman of the Amur branch of the NGO “Creative Artists’ Union” of Russia, Cavalier of the Order of “Friendship”.

A. Tikhomirov is the founder of a new trend in painting patented in 1995 under the name “Okonopis” (window icon-painting spiritual images painted on antique window shutters with the use of tempera). He was born in 1956 in Elektrostal, Moscow region. In 1984 he graduated from Moscow state Art and Design University (former Stroganov Art College), G. M. Korzhev’s Workshop. Nowadays A. Tikhomirov resides and works in Blagoveschensk, Amur region of Russia.

Titles and Awards: The Russian Orthodox Church Saint Andrey Rublev’s 3rd Class Order; “Blagotvorenie” Iinternational 3rd Class Order. He has been awarded the Jubilee Medals: “Centenary of the Russian Trade Unions” and “Bicentenary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”. His unique Icons painted in the manner of “Okonopis” are exhibited in the museums and private collections in Russia, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belorussia, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA. In 2000, 2006, 2007 the TV Channel “Kultura” shot and broadcasted films on the artist’s creative work. The film was also broadcasted by TV Channel NTV in 2003 and 2013. He has received Appreciation Letters from Russian Orthodox Church, Russian Academy of Arts, the Government of the Amur region, Russian Ministry of Culture, Russian and foreign Museums and exhibition halls. He is the Honorary Director of the Russian Art Museum in Harbin (China), Honorary Member of Chinese Artists Association, Honorary Member of Krasnoyarsk Branch of Artists’ Union of Russia.
